Nelle Pierce V.O.P. is a writer and illustrator and very messy house-troll. She has used words and pictures ever since she found some under a rock in the Winter of 1982. Her imaginative worlds, stupid jokes and allergy to real life puts her creative endeavours in the realm of ‘children’s fiction’. That’s fine with her, because only boring people want to grow up anyway.
Nelle spent her childhood in a tiny gold rush town where the burgers are famous, and everyone knows the colour of their neighbour’s underpants. The community was constantly tormented by drought, fire and flood, and an emergency siren still goes off every Sunday morning to keep residents on their toes. This has left her in a state of panic about the nearest bucket/boat/alternate planet .
When not slaving away at her crayons in the studio, Nelle makes a spectacle of herself as a Live Scribe. This basically involves getting paid to tell bad jokes and draw cartoons at big events while other people do Real Work, which is quite fabulous really.
Much of Nelle’s serious writing has been locked in a secret Government vault. It will probably be worth squillions one day, when someone finally remembers the combination. Until then, she’ll be finishing all the stories she has scribbled in exercise books and getting them published so that she can die filthy rich, and with an empty to-do list.
Nelle lives in Melbourne with her family and two moody, shapeshifting cats.
